The Jehova's Witnesses claim that every other Christian denomination falls under the 'Whore of Babylon' slogan, because they believe that they alone contain no practices and follow no rites that are not explicitly in the Bible, and anyone who adds to the Bible is accepting things outside of the covenant, or whoring out their faith. Still others have suggested that the Whore of Babylon was the Catholic church - churches and religious groups are thought of as 'female' in a few Bible passages, and the claim was that the Church's corruption was a sign of unfaithfulness to God, and that the Pope was therefore the Antichrist. This is a more literalist interpretation that claims that the Antichrist will be born in Jerusalem, and that his domain will also include the holy city. Others say that the 'Whore of Babylon' is Jerusalem, a city which is the holy city for nearly every faith and has been the jewel in the crown of so many great Empires, it seems to 'whore' itself out to whoever occupies it at the time. Some say it references Paganism, with it's naked sex goddesses and general non-Christian ideas, a sort of an unchristian faith, and the shift of spiritualism away from the humility, charity, and chastity of the classical Christian Faith.
